Back in the olden days, before we had the internet to do all of our comparison shopping and when UPS was a mystery in a brown wheeled box, we had the mall. And we didn’t have six malls in our area, mind you, we had two. One was better than the other, so when you wanted to do some serious shopping, you went there.

One of my very favorite shops to step into was Crabtree & Evelyn. I was American-15-going-on-British-26 and I thought I needed EVERYTHING Crabtree & Evelyn had to offer.

I think I was partially intoxicated by the scents of the shop, and partially by the pretty packaging. I mean, what Laura Ashley Wannabe 15-year-old can resist this?

So beautiful. I had a particular preference for the Spring Rain line. I had some shelf paper, perfume, lotions, and soaps. Oh, the tiny paper wrapped soaps. I just loved the way they looked, so I hardly used those little soaps. Yes, I was a hoarder of beauty on a teenage dresser.

Crabtree & Evelyn has definitely modernized itself in keeping with the times, and I like that too, but oh, the nostalgia!

Their packaging may have changed, but their quality and style definitely has not. They have a lovely collection of Valentine’s Day inspired gift sets available, including this Limited Edition Tech Wristlet Set in Iris for $20.

Don’t get me wrong, I love chocolate as much as anybody, but any last-minute fool can run to the nearest Stuff Mart and pick up the remnants of whatever they’ve wheeled out into the aisle next to the check-out stations. A gift like the one above says, “I’m classy. I took time and intentionality.” That’s a gift that communicates something, no?

If you want to step it up a notch, you can find this Valentine’s Day Gift Box in Rosewater for $39. See that tiny soap? Be still my heart.

Does your gift need to say “Classy on a Budget?” You might be interested to find out Crabtree & Evelyn has an online outlet available. Perfect for saying, “I love you. For less.”
