Game Time!

Are there any must-have games in your family that you can’t live without? We have some of the old standards such as Monopoly and Battleship. My kids really like Life and Uno and then there’s just the regular pack of cards from which you can play a whole variety of things.

We recently discovered the awesomeness that is the game Ticket to Ride. My kids and I have been enjoying it SO much!

I recently wrote up my thoughts the hard copy of this game versus the iPad version which you can check out here. In short, I like having BOTH. I think they compliment each other in terms of helping the new player and the younger player really grasp the nuances of how this game is to be played.

Another recent favorite that we’ve all enjoyed is Dragon Face. It’s kind of a cross between Checkers and Chess.

This one is pretty easily transportable and we’ve taken it with us to piano lessons before to play while other sisters are taking their turns at the piano. I wrote up some thoughts on this one as well.

Those are some of the newer games to grace our doorway and we’re pretty glad they’ve become part of our personal game library.

Are there any new games out there that your family has really appreciated? Are you more of an old-standby kind of family? I’d love to hear what strikes your fancy!

What do you find are the best times for playing games together? We went to the ocean once for a family vacation and took a couple of games with us for rainy days and evenings. I find we tend to play more during scheduled school breaks and weekends. Sometimes if the girls are finished with all of their work and there’s enough time left in the evening we’ll take advantage of that and play a game too, but I’ll admit – I don’t play with them nearly as much as I think they wish I would.

Six and a half more weeks until summer break! I’m really looking forward to it!
